Stock vs. Custom Elements Components

For its flat fee plans, Whitehorse Solutions, Inc., uses stock web elements and Elements from its vast library.  There are two reasons for this. First, stock Elements allow for web development with significantly less costs to the client. Second, stock Elements allow for a finished product in much less time than one developed entirely from custom Elements.

You may have been told that a business web site should be developed entirely with custom Elements and elements. Of course doing so can result in a more unique site.  On the other hand, your business products and services, as well as your site content can make your site unique.

Moreover, the use of stock Elements does not mean that your site will look like everyone else's in your industry. The appearance of your web site is a combination of all of the elements, stock and custom, used in creating the site.   For example, this entire "web design" section of the WhiteHorse site was created using stock Elements and web elements.

Whether you feel that you want a totally custom design, or find stock element acceptable, is up to you.  Whitehorse is more than happy to design either site for you.  Frequently, site involve a mixture of both.

Components Defined

There are several components common to all web sites. A good web site is tied together by one or more themes to which all of the elements in the web relate. These elements include:

  • Web Elements.
Almost all web elements are actually Elements. Generally, however, Elements refer to the logos and pictures found on the web page.
  • Web Backgrounds.
Each page background can be a defined color, a design or watermark. (Designs and watermarks are graphics used in a specialized manner.)
  • Page Banners.
Page banners are design graphics which display the title or subject of the page.
  • Buttons.

  • Image Maps.
Image maps are specialized graphics that can be used to select different pages in the web when the user clicks on different positions on the picture.
  • Hit Counters.
Hit counters display a count of the number of visitors who view a particular page or site.
Numerous other elements are used in web pages, these are just some of the most common.

Graphics can be of various types, including:

  • Linked Graphics.
Linked Graphics are graphics which call another web page when clicked on by the user.
  • Animated Graphics.
Animated Graphics are those with pictures that move or display motion.
  • Hoover Buttons.
Hoover Buttons are buttons which change appearance when the user's mouse "Hoover's" over them. They may also change appearance when selected.
